Construction & Facilities Maintenance Training Program

Through this FREE 12-week program participants will learn life skills and get hands-on training in construction. Enrollment is limited, and an admission test and drug test are required.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and must attend one of the following sessions lasting approximately 2 hours:
Monday November 5th at 11am
Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center, 2200 Lafitte St.
(corner of N. Galvez)
or
Tuesday November 6th at 10am
Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center, 2200 Lafitte St.
(corner of N. Galvez)
or
Wednesday November 7th at 2 pm
Iberville Community Center, 1425 Iberville St.
(behind basketball court)
Training will begin Monday November 12th and will be held 8:00am-2:30pm Monday-Friday at the Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center, 2200 Lafitte St.
Graduates receive a pre-apprenticeship certificate (PACT) in Facilities Maintenance from Home Builders Institute (HBI).

Customer Service Training Program

Through this FREE 4-week program participants will learn life skills that lead to workforce readiness and hands-on training in . Participants will learn what it takes to provide great customer service in the 21st century. Enrollment is limited to Iberville Residents only, and a customer service assessment will be given to participants interested in enrolling.

Admission and Enrollment Dates:

Wednesday November 7th at 10am

Thursday November 8th at 1pm

Iberville Community Center, 1425 Iberville St. (behind the basketball court)

“Your Financial Future” workshop

The Workforce Development Team will host a workshop at Iberville that will focus on financial awareness.  The workshop will be held at the Iberville Community Center on 10/16/2012 at 10am. The purpose of this two hour “Your Financial Future” workshop is to bring awareness to individuals’ credits reports and how it may affect their future when it comes to housing, getting a job, or obtaining a loan.  Participants of the workshop will learn how to access their financial information and get the help they need to start taking control of their future.Your Financial Future 10-16-12

Section 106- Canvassing

Look for the Black Men of Labor in the French Quarter and Faubourg Tremé today and tomorrow.  They will be handing out information about the upcoming Section 106 and NEPA public meeting.  The canvassing schedule is available here and information about Section 106 and NEPA can be found here.

Urban Strategies is offering two great opportunities this month

Construction Training Program
FREE 12-week program for hands-on training, workforce readiness, and life skills

Math Skills Refresher-Monday, May 21st 5:30-7pm
90 minute session to brush up on your math

Black Men of Labor Door-to-Door Canvassing Schedule

The Black Men of Labor (BMOL) will canvass, door-to-door, throughout the CNI footprint most Saturday mornings.  Covering every ward and precinct within the CNI footprint, BMOL will distribute fact sheets, newsletters, comment cards, and answer questions about the engagement process.   BMOL’s Canvassing Schedule is now available.
